Ingredients :

1/2 cup yellow moong dal (split yellow gram) , washed and drained
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 1/2 tbsp coconut oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
10 curry leaves (kadi patta)
2 dry red chillies (pandi) , broken into pieces
1/4 cup thinly sliced onions

To Be Blended Into A Smooth Paste (using 1/4 Cup Of Water)
1/2 cup grated coconut
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1/4 cup onions , roughly chopped

Method :

Combine the dal, turmeric powder and 1 cup of water in a pressure cooker, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 6 whistles.Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.Add ½ cup of water and mix well using a whisk till smooth.Transfer the dal mixture, prepared paste, salt and ¾ cup of water in a deep non-stick pan, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 7 minutes, while stirring occasionally. Keep aside.Heat the coconut oil in a small non-stick pan, add the mustard seeds, curry leaves and red chillies and sauté on a medium flame for few seconds.Add the onions and sauté on a medium flame for 4 to 5 minutes, till golden brown in colour.Pour it over the prepared dal mixture, mix well.Serve immediately.
