Ingredients
1 cup soaked yellow moong dal (split yellow gram)
1/4 cup chopped green garlic (hara lehsun)
1 tbsp ghee
1 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
a pinch asafoetida (hing)
a few curry leaves (kadi patta)
salt to taste
2 tsp coriander (dhania) seeds powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
2 slit green chillies
1 tsp finely chopped ginger (adrak)
1 tsp lemon juice
2 tsp sugar
2 tsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)
Method
Heat the ghee in a deep pan and add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds.When the seeds crackle, add the curry leaves and asafoetida and saute for 30 seconds.Add the dal and 2 cups water, mix well and cook for 5 minutes. Add all the spices and garlic, mix well and cook for 5 minutes.Add the coriander, mix well and serve hot with hot rice.
