Green Pea Waffles

Preparation Time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 20 mins
Makes 3 waffles
Ingredients
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1/2 cup semolina (rava)
  • 5 tbsp urad dal (split black lentil) flour
  • 1 tbsp curds (dahi)
  • 2 1/2 tsp finely chopped green chillies
  • 1 tsp crushed cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
  • 1/2 tsp fruit salt
  • 2 tsp oil
  • salt to taste
Other Ingredients
  • oil for greasing and cooking
For Serving
  • green chutney
Method
  1. Grind the green peas in a blender to a coarse paste.
  2. Combine the green pea paste, semolina, urad dal flour, curds, green chillies, cumin seeds, coriander, asafoetida, salt, oil and ¾ cup of water in a deep bowl and make a smooth batter.
  3. Just before making the waffles, add the fruit salt and mix gently.
  4. Divide the batter into 3 equal portions.
  5. Pre-heat a waffle iron.
  6. Grease the waffle iron with little oil, pour 1 portion of the green pea batter and spread it evenly. Put some oil over the batter and cook in a waffle maker for 5 minutes or till the waffles are crispy.
  7. Repeat with the remaining batter to make 2 more waffles.
  8. Serve immediately with green chutney.
