- Refined flour (maida) 500 grams
- Fresh yeast 30 grams
- Sugar 2 1/2 teaspoons
- Salt to taste
- Butter 1 tablespoon
- Sieve flour into a bowl. Make a well in the centre and put fresh yeast and sugar in it.
- Pour a little warm water over it and wait for five minutes or till the yeast begins to froth.
- Add salt and butter and knead into a soft dough with sufficient warm water.
- Cover and rest for at least half an hour or till it doubles in volume. Knock back the dough and knead again for one minute.
- Divide the dough into sixteen equal parts, make small balls and put them on a greased perforated steamer plate.
- Set aside for twenty to twenty-five minutes or till they double in size.
- Boil sufficient water in a steamer, place the steamer plate in it and cover.
- Steam for at least fifteen minutes.
- Serve hot.
